My god -- what a tragic family! Tragedy touched every single member of that unfortunate family, even the poor donkey.

I don't believe it's shown what happened to them; when the gunshots start, they turn and run away, leaving Balthasar alone to slowly pass. They're a couple of losers. It's about as simple and powerful an ending as you'll see.
The lambs come around him, their bells are near the only sound Balthasar and the audience hears at the end.
They were two among the gang of bastards that raped Marie, weren't they?
