Why Keep it Secret?

I watched as a kid, so maybe it was explained and I forgot, but why did Hayata keep his ability to become Ultraman a secret?

And while I'm asking questions, what exactly happened when he triggered the beta capsule? Did he physically transform into Ultraman? It always seemed that Ultraman remained a separate entity. Did he transform, but Ultraman's personality took over? Or was it never explained?

I imagine he needed to keep his identity a secret so as to reduce the likelihood of someone stealing the Beta Capsule Or simply shooting him when human to eliminate the threat.

No idea about the identity status. I always thought Ultraman was a different entity. But it makes more sense that the guy transformed into him. I don't recall an explanation. Maybe one of the subsequent series explains.

Maybe I should have been more clear-- why did he not tell the other members of the Science Patrol?

If someone else had the beta capsule, would pushing the button transform Hayata? Or would the person pushing it become Ultraman?
