It is a labor love continuation of the original series with the same characters, and it is really pretty darn good. The plots are every bit as good as many of the original series episodes are.

It's pure amateur hour. Watching it made me really appreciate just how good the original cast and the behind-the-scenes people actually were. The same goes for most any other real TV show. They are really, really good at their jobs and it's easy to take it for granted until you watch some fan-made thing like Star Trek Continues.
I was impressed with the faithful re-creation of the old sets and props, but nothing else.
Couldn't they just simply deep fake all over the top of Shatner and co's faces and use AI voice technology to give us the original voices? Or at least a pretty close approximation.
Then we could actually have pretty authentic additional episodes of the TOS.
The Dr McCoy guy is terrible tbh (he must have donated A LOT to the production) but I'm sure they could mangle something over the top of him.
CBS could just pay these guys a small royalty (I'm sure they'd be delighted) and then they could bring these episodes officially onboard, sell the blu ray releases, get them out on their streaming services, etc...

I don't know what that was. It was to the best of my recall word for word the closing minutes of that episode of Star Trek, and yet it seemed to have high pitched voices and shifting faces???? That was one of my favorite episodes.
The thing about Star Trek, and the thing that I think got it cancelled was this vision of the world/galaxy. We have the alt-Spocks country today in Trump. Star Trek had to be cancelled because it was too subversive and it made it hard to undo those ideas that appealled to Americans so much, an extended version of America at that time into the future. The oligarchs to be were threatened by that wonderful TV show, silly as it may seem today.
