The Monkees Shirts

I noticed that The Monkees wore a certain kind of shirt frequently. They were long sleeved and with collars. The buttons made them look distinctive. There were two rows of four buttons each. And they came in a few different colors. Is there a name for that style of shirt? Where could I buy one?

Those 8-button shirts were designed by Gene Ashman (the "Gene" in "Papa Gene's Blues")at the request of Mike Nesmith, who wanted the Monkees to wear shirts similar to the shirt John Wayne wore in "Stagecoach", a slightly Western look to set the Monkees apart from the typical "mod" look of the day.

Thank you so much. I guess it was a plastron and/or eight button Western shirt. I couldn't find it on ebay. I am going to have to keep looking.

I always wondered about these shirts. In the late 80's the band The Church (Under The Milky Way) wore these kinds of shirts in their videos. It gave them a retro look. This is some fun trivia to have discovered, thank you!

It looked like Alice wore a ladies version of that shirt on "The Brady Bunch".

I haven't connected that. Good catch.
