Why did he go from having straight hair to a curly/perm look? Was his hair originally curly and then they straightened it out for the show? What's the story?
"No! That’s not true at all. Elvis takes fifty percent of everything I earn." Col. Parker
Dolenz's hair was naturally wavy. On "Circus Boy" (1956), his hair was chemically straightened and dyed blond. During the first season of "The Monkees" (1966), he would straighten his hair by brushing it while damp until dry, and would wear a hair net in between takes. By the second season, he let his hair go natural, and shortly into the second season filming, when the group adopted a hippie look, had a permanent to get a curly "Afro" look.
When watching the Monkees marathon on Antenna TV, I noticed on the first season, Micky may have occasionally used hair spray to keep his hair straight (some episodes it looks stiff), and sometimes a hair tonic (some episodes it looks slightly oily).
Mickey is of Hungarian/Native American descent. The late Robert Hegyes of Welcome Back Kotter was Italian/Hungarian and had curly hair too. I read Pete was the only one with naturally straight hair.
