the Black Beauty
what year and model was the Black Beauty and do they still make them??
shareIf I remember correctly, the Black Beauty was a customized Chrysler Imperial, but I'm not sure of the year. I don't know exactly when they stopped making them, but Chrysler had to get out of the the luxury sedan business when they were bought out by Daimler-Benz.
Sometime in the early 80s I was watching a video from some heavy-metal band, and in a few scenes they were shown riding around in an old, worn-looking sedan covered in badly oxidized black paint. I'm pretty sure it was the Black Beauty, but I doubt if the band knew that. They probably just found it somewhere in a studio backlot and thought it would look cool in their video.
The black beauty is a 1966 Chrysler Imperial. They don't make them anymore. For more info go to: www.katoman.com, this is a good site.
share...Dean Jefferies customissed two 1966 Chrysler Imperials for the "Green Hornet" series. One has been restored to it orginal condition and Van Williams appeared with it on a caple documentry about supper hero TV series of the 1960s. The car is apparently still owned by Jefferies. The other car is discribed as "missing" on one of the classic movie car websites...During the late eighties one of the Chryslers costarred with another Jefferies creation, the Landmaster from "Damnation Alley", in an Orwllian video for "The Whild and the Young" by British heavy metal band; Quite Riot. It is used as a staff car by a Tipper Gore (?) look alike who is leading an army whose perpose is to eliminate heavy metal music and the bands that play it (This was around the time Tipper Gore and The Parents Musical Resource Center had forced Congressional hearing on the "evils" of rock music from Mega Death to John Denver.). Toward the end she corners the band and orders a firing squad to take them out. The band members wake up, on their tour bus, as a TV news announcer is taking about the government forcing record companise to print lyrics on album covers. The nightmare isn't over. The bus driver turns out to be a member of the anti rock army. As the bus drives into a warehouse the "tipper" look alike holds her hand over the camera lenses. Creepy...In the video (on U Tube) the car is polished, not matt black like it was in the old serie, the area around the windows is chromed and a strange looking machine gun position has been mounted on top of the trunk lid. This may be the version that disappeared...As for the scale model the first version was made by Aurora in 1/32 (or 1/35?) scale and appeared in 1966 or 67.Aurora whent out of business in the late seventies. During the late 90s Polar Lights reproduced the tooling (molds) and marketed the kit. Ertl bought out Polar Lights, but discondinued the line a few years ago. Recently Auto World purchased the Polar Lights and AMT tooling from Ertl so the "Black Beauty" kit might go back into production if they can get the rights to it.
