This is so great! America Life just keeps adding to the list of fantastic shows. I can always count on ALife to keep me entertained.

Thanks for the info!

Well, having just watched my first episode on American Life ("The Green Hornet" was never widely circulated after its demise), I would say the show seems to combine both the elements of "Batman" with the dapper TV street-sleuths of the era, on shows such as "77 Sunset Strip" and Van Williams' previous job "Surfside 6". I have to read up more why the Hornet is presumed to be crooked, but Williams looks great in the green mask, and I got a kick out of him being driven around in the Black Beauty (does he not drive himself for any particular reason?). Bruce Lee strikes a very assured presence, and while the show is limited by its slim budget, it isn't as overtly silly as "Batman" and has some appealing elements.

oops.
i posted about it on the 2006 Green Hornet AHH

anyway. to take from my other post
GH has more action and less comedy then Batman.
so that surprises me.

i never really watched this show.

Dudes, keep watching. You will see that the Green Hornet is not a comedy at all, but a serious crime drama.

I think the seriousness of the show is what eventually did it in. IIRC, people tuned in to watch another Batman but when it wasn't a farce the show viewers dropped and the show was cancelled. But I am enjoying every episode on American Life.

I still watch it every Friday night, sometimes twice. An excellent, indeed serious crime drama with good plots and exciting action (and super exciting Kato!). I don't care for the repetitive footage (getting the Black Beauty out, driving it down the same backlot backstreets), but it is consistently well-written, well-acted and directed.

Glad you like it moonspinner55.

As for the stock footage I see that as the equilivelent of the stock footage on Batman, sliding down the BatPoles, the Batmobile leaving the BatCave, driving to Gotham City Police HQ.

Very true, and yet the pluses outweight the minuses. And what about that great theme by trumpeter Al Hirt?? Hotcha!

reply

Agreed moonspinner55 ! Al"He's the King" Hirt! Billy May too! Great stuff!!
