I haven't seen all the episodes, but it has constantly bothered me that the criminal underworld knows who he is and continues to work with him. At best, he's a bad operative. At worst, he'll tie you up and leave you for the cops.
Am I thinking about it too much? Probably.

The Green Hornet is a indeed a do-gooder vigliante who posses as a Mob Assasin as his cover. They do not know that. He is seen as an Mob Assasin for hire. His connection to the DA is secret. Please watch more epsodes and you will see the following:
1) the Green Hornet never gives his foes much of a choise BUT to join him.
2) because of 1) above said foes usually, if not always attempt to double-cross him.
Mastermind criminal or brilliant crime fighter? I first heard that narration during the summer of 1966,it was a promo for a brand new ABC TV show called The Green Hornet.It immediately got my attention & I was very curious about this series & what it was about.I'd never heard of TGH before & the commercials looked intriguing.Fell in love with the show right away when it made its September debut.And we did receive an answer,Britt Reid & Kato were crime fighters who felt that the most effective way to battle criminal organizations was to "pose as a criminal team"in order to uncover & infiltrate & destroy real criminal operations that the law enforcement agencies were unable to bring down.While this was a clever approach by TGH&K,it put their lives in jeopardy not only from the criminals they were trying to stop.It also put them in danger with the legitimate law enforcement agencies who truly believed TGH&K were indeed criminals.They had to maintain their cover story as being criminals to the world at large in order to remain effective.Only D.A.Scanlon & Casey knew the truth.They could not risk having anymore people or groups aware of the true nature of TGH&K or their covert cover could be exposed.
