Does anyone know if this available anywaere? I recently saw some footage of it in a documentary and was wondering whether it was realesed on vid or watever?
"i am frank & frank must go, i good you bidevening"
I don't know about getting this specific episode, but I understand that the Batman series is finally going to be available on DVD in 2006. The Green Hornet appearances are sure to be included.
In addition to the two-parter featuring the Green Hornet & Kato, there was another cameo where they stick their heads out of a window as Batman and Robin are scaling a skyscraper.
does anybody else find it totally impossible to believe that Robin could beat Kato in a fight? if I remember correctly, that is exactly what happened! Of course, it's been forty years since I saw it.
It actually turned out that it was a draw. Both sides got their shots in, but no declared victor. Obviously in the REAL WORLD, Kato would have just kicked everybody's arse (including his partner's) and walked outta there without being touched! TV magic...ain't it something?
The standoff was a compromise. Orginally, Batman and Robin were going to WIN as it was their show. Needless to say, that was changed to the fight we saw. Bruce Lee was not about to lose to anyone, certainly not to Burt Ward.
The short answer is no, they aren't coming out yet. Fox owns the footage, DC (Warner) owns the character, and the licenses have to be negotiated...and this is taking a LONG time.
One small hunk of good news: Adam West has said he will gladly participate in any DVD extras. Cool!
This episode demonstrates that in Batman's universe, the Green Hornet exists as a real person. However at least 2 GH episodes featured characters watching Batman episodes that could hardly have been interpreted as news footage. Looked too staged. This suggested that in the Green Hornet's universe, Batman is a fictional character who does NOT exist. So.....RiddlemeTHIS-bugfans! If that's true in the Green Hornet's universe, what does that make the Green Hornet in Batman's universe, from the same vantage? lol
There's only 1 Yogi Bear. They tried a 2nd time, & they made a Booboo!HeyeyeyhEY!
1)Please note that Batman is set in a 'Bat-world' while the GH is set in a 'real world'.
2)As to the Green Hornet epsodes where characters are watching Batman episodes. The Batman episodes the characters on the Green Hornet show are presented as just that. Batman tv episodes. *Not* news. No, Batman is a fictional character here.
3) Now, the Batman episodes where the Green Hornet and Kato make appearances. Batman & Robin 1st meet the Green Hornet & Kato while climbing up a wall on a bat-climb. Batman introduces to Robin the Green Hornet & K as crimefighters. Later, the Green Hornet & Kato appear in the 'famous' Batman 2-parter; were they are seen as criminals. So much for Bat-continuity! So while the Green Hornet & Kato do exist, it doesn't matter as Bat-continuity is clearly malleable. Holy inconsistancy, Batman!
4)I case you haven't figured this out yet, the Green Hornet & Kato appearances on Batman was a effort to boost ratings for the Green Hornet. No, it didn't work.
re: 2)As to the Green Hornet epsodes where characters are watching Batman episodes. The Batman episodes the characters on the Green Hornet show are presented as just that. I was giving the show the benefit of the doubt when I suggested news report possibility. It's interesting that you mentioned the Bat climb encounter. I remember now, & that *is* a continuity issue. I just think continuity issues b/n different shows regarding their respective existences is more interesting, & the joke I made regarding the relationships b/n the 2 GH's works better using that. Also, in theory, the fact that the GH show takes itself more seriously suggests it would have better continuity about its characters encounters. Unless the decicion to mix it up b/n the characters occurred after the scenes in question. I just like addressing continuity issues b/n shows

In November 2014 Warner Bros. released the full 120 episode Batman collection on Blu-ray and DVD with a variety of extras including a miniature Batmobile, a 32 page episode guide and Adam West Scrapbook.
