Kids Home Town?

Which town did the kids live in prior to their parents' accident?

reply

Terre Haute, IN
That's where Uncle Bill grew up as well. There were a few episodes where they went back for visits to Terre Haute

In the earliest episodes they incorrectly pronouced it Terra-Hut, but later on someone must have corrected them, as they started correctly pronouncing it Terra-Hote.

I thought it was Tora Hoot...

It ryhmes with Sarah Oat. I was born there and was so upset as a child when they mispronounced it on the show. I don't know why so many people have a problem pronouncing "Haute" the right way - haven't they ever heard of Haute Couture or Haute Cuisine? :)

I wondered about the pronunciation, too, when I was a kid. I recall that Jody (or Buffy?) said "Terre-Hut" in an early episode. I used to attribute that to a child's imperfect pronunciation. In an episode shortly later Cissy correctly pronounced it correctly.

It is true that even a child should have been able to hear/reproduce the difference between the vowel sound of 'hut' and 'hoat,' if they had lived there.

I vaguely remember an episode where they went to Terre Haute. They visited their old house and the twins didn't remember anything until they saw something then it came back. There was still a desk from when they lived there but I don't think that was the item.

In the 1st episode the aunt that drops off Buffy pronounces it Terre Hut.
