Brian Keiths comments on Anissa Jones' death
Does anybody know Brian Keith’s comments on Anissa Jones' death? I cannot find them on the Internet.

shareI looked around on the internet and couldn't find anything either.
I asked my mother about this and she said she recalls him on some show (I assume she means a daytime or late night talk show) shortly after her death talking about how he wished he had known the full extent of her situation. Apparently he says that Anissa was very quiet and didn't talk about her home life much. He said he regretted not knowing more about what she was going through because he would have stepped in to try help her.
He mentioned on that show one time while FA was still in production the producers kicked her stage mom off the set because Anissa had come to work with marks on her wrists because her mother had bound her to her bed for the night because she had refused to do some publicity stuff. So he had some idea of the kind of home life she had, but didn't know it had gotten to the point that it had after the shows cancellation.
My mom said he took it hard and it looked like he blamed himself that he wasn't there for her.
Kathy Garver was on Bill O'Reilly (clip is on youtube), and she mentioned that she was at Anissa's 18th birthday party, and Anissa's mom came up to her and said she believed Anissa was hanging out with the wrong crowd, and asked if there was anything she could do to help. Unfortunately Kathy probably thought Anissa's mom was making more of the situation then was really there, and went off to do some other work. I'm sure it didn't help that Kathy didn't really care for Anissa's mom too much, it's my understanding that she had called her a difficult woman in the past, so she probably took what she had to say with a grain of salt.
It's very sad when you think that if Kathy had stepped in, as a friend, and tried to help, Anissa could still be alive today. Not that I would blame Kathy (or Brian Keith), like I said she clearly didn't know the full extent of what was going on, and not caring for Anissa's mother she likely thought the woman was exaggerating, but it's very sad situation all around.
That's so sad. I'm sure Keith and Garver and others had some strong feelings of guilt after the death.
I know from personal experience when a co-worker commits suicide (not the same as an accidental drug overdose, but still . . .) there is a sense that you could have/should have done something more. I imagine it was similar with them.
Yeah and in this case I'm sure they felt more like family then co-workers, even though I hear by the end of the show they were ready for it to end. Actually I've heard conflicting statements regarding Brian Keith and the shows end. Some sources say he was disappointed on hearing the news that the show would not return and some say that he felt that 5 years was long enough, so I don't know what he thought. I know Anissa was ready for it to end.
They would have definitely taken her death hard. Whitaker makes his feelings on her death known on that 90's Geraldo clip that is on youtube, and having feelings of guilt particularly when you're as close as they were is natural.
Brian Keith committed suicide too.
shareIt's not absolutely clear if Anissa's death was remotely close to suicide; the coroner's report lists the cause of death as an "Accidental Overdose", albeit the worst one he had ever seen at that time.

I vaguely remember hearing he committed suicide because he was so distraught over his daughters suicide. Such tragedy all around.

Brian had terminal lung cancer and committed suicide 10 weeks after his daughter committed suicide.
shareKathy Garver, Brian Keith, and Anissa Jones were co-workers and nothing more. Yes, they may have wished they could've done more but at the end of the day, no one was responsible for Anissa Jones but Anissa Jones. Most people working on television shows know nothing of their co-stars - they hardly see each other except when being filmed.
shareAnissa wasn't of the age to be 'responsible' for herself in that regard. Her parents were in that position, and apparently failed her pretty grievously.
shareAnissa and her brother, Paul, got caught up in the Southern California drug culture. The Baby Boomer generation went to too many funerals and not enough weddings.
shareOh, please. None of my friends died young and all of them got married. Keep you judgemental bias to yourself.
shareMy husband and I are in our 50's so we were about Anissa's age. In my husband's hometown, a lot of teens got into drugs in the 70's, 80's, and now in their late 40's and 50's they're dying. It took a toll on their overall health, even if it didn't kill them in their youth. And many had troubled lives.
shareSad but true mbcullen.
"A real man would rather bow down to a strong woman than dominate a weak one"
Exactly. People need to imagine how their own lives reflect this: do they stay close and get together with all/most of their former co-workers from a job that ended years ago? You may "stay in contact" but it's not like they were a "family."

"Don't call me 'mac'... HONEY!"
Anissa and Sebastian were the only ones to die in the 1970s and the only other, many years later, was Brian Keith. I wonder how Anissa and Sebastian would have looked or been today..
Amanda Bynes is hot and Lindsay Lohan is not.

We have to stop meeting like this...go away...not talking to you in my postings
shareFrom what I have read, the cast of Family Affair were more than just coworkers. They kept in touch during and afterwards.
shareIn 1979 when Reagan was running for president, I was at an event at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington DC on Connecticut Ave. and two celebrities, Don Defore of Hazel, and Brian Keith attended. Both were very friendly, and very few questions were asked to them about their present and past shows. One reporter did sneak in a question to Brian about Anissa death. I did not here the whole answer except he did say the crew and other tv staff did not realize how bad Anissa was being treated at home by her family from both physical and mental abuse. It must have been awful because Anissa refused to discuss home life on the set according to Brian, but that is all I heard.

Be still, and know that I am God.
I wanted to know the same thing. I heard he was devasted. Understandably so. Such a sweet soul gone way too soon
shareWhen you watch that little girl today on Family Affair, currently on Prime, it's heartbreaking. Such a sweet little face.
