I am surprised there isn't much more on this borad. This was a pretty good show. I believe it had good ratings for most (if not all) of it's run.

I have seen very little about the show since it's original run in the late 60's.
This is definately one of those shows that ought to be on a cable netwok.

One of the things I liked about the show (Besides the animals) was Officer Hedley. He was an interesting charecter.

I also liked the touches of humor that was in the show.
I remember one episode where Judy was swinging on a vine and there was a Johnny Wiesmuller Tarzan yell in the soundtrack. It was surreal. I was cought off guard because most of the show's humor was a little more traditional.

I also remember the sigm in front of the compound which read something like "Wamaru study center for animal behavior".

Also every now and then, there was a tiger in the compound. Visitors sometimes showed surprise at there being a tiger in Africa.

I remember the show changing it's opening theme. (Although I don't believe the opening shots changed much, if at all). The first theme was an instumantal done on horns woodwinds etc. The second theme sounded, perhaps a little more fitting, and was done with primitive sounding percussion, whistles & the word "Daktari" was repeated during the music. Almost like a chant.

If memory serves right, this was another Ivan Tors show. (Like Flipper, Gentle Ben & Sea Hunt)

Can anyone explain to me why imdb has Marshall Thompson down for only three episodes. I thought that he was in every episode!!!

He was in every one (At least every one I've seen)He was the main star.

If you look a many older shows on This sit you'll see that many actors are not listed for all the episodes they were in. For instance Route 66 lists Martin Milner as being in 14 episodes. Anne Francis is only listed as being in 5 episodes of Honey West.

I think that if an actor isn't spaciffically listed in a given episode on IMDb, then he won't get credited as being in the episode. I would suspect that if you were to look up the indiviual episodes of Daktari, you would probably only find Marshall Thompsan's name on three of them. I haven't tried this myself but eventually I will. I did look up the premier episode of Honey West and Anne Frances' name wasn't listed. I think when people add info on cast members to an individual episode of a series, they don't always bother to list the main charecters feeling it's too obviouse. Perhaps the site automatically totals all the episodes and adds those figures to the cast listing, hence the mistakes. Anyway, I'm only guessing, but it makes sense to me.

You're correct that just because an actor or actress isn't listed on IMDB doesn't mean that he/she wasn't in a given episode. I've started watching the episodes of "Mannix," for instance, and although Gail Fisher was the second lead and appeared in almost all of the episodes beginning with the second season, I was surprised that she wasn't listed in many of them on IMDB -- even when I'd seen the episode, and noted that she was a featured player. I presume that IMDB has only so many resources (i.e., staff members and reference works) available, and if they miss something, that's the way it will stay unless someone corrects it. Fortunately, of course, users of the site can post such corrections, as I've done from time to time -- such as adding episodes that included Ms. Fisher.

You can even request deletion of an actor or actress from a movie or TV episode, although the requirements for doing so are (understandably) a lot tougher, because someone will lose a screen credit. But I once noted that someone listed as a guest star in an episode of "Room 222" wasn't listed in the end credits, and rather clearly didn't have a part in that episode (the actress listed was white, and all of the guest stars on that episode were black), so I submitted that update, and after checking it (I assume), the staff allowed the correction to go through.
