Jeremy Slate Stunt????

Does anyone know who did the stunt where the Jeremy Slate character is killed?

Slate decides to switch sides over to the Duke and Wayne tosses him a gun.

As he leaps for the gun he is shot by James Gregory in mid air and is jerked backwards.

Anyone know who the stunt person was on this gag?

I'd have to go back and look at the scene to be sure, but it looks like Jeremy Slate did his own stunt there. Maybe it's just the editing that makes it appear that way, but I always got the impression it was actually Slate.

It was probably Chuck Roberson - not that he actually did it, it does look like Slate - but Roberson probably set it up, with the mechanism that jerked Slate backwards.

I remember seeing this when it was new in theatres (and when I was fairly new in theatres, as well - 11 y/o) and that scene made a helluva lasting impression, along with the one where George Kennedy get the axe handle in the nose from Duke. Strong stuff for back then.
