Is she supposed to be the same woman who was portrayed in 'Tombstone' and 'Wyatt Earp' as Big Nose Katie Elder the notorious prostitute?
If so, who did she marry to then have 4 sons? There seems to be a gap in the story telling lore/time line.

I've wondered that for a long time, about the names being the same...I haven't seen The Sons Of Katie Elder yet, but is don't think it's anything more than a coincidence.

Mary Katherine Horony Cummings, AKA Big Nose Kate, died in 1940. There exists a tradition that she used the surname Elder as a pseudonym, but it is based on historical evidence that is scanty at best. It's possible the film character's name is inspired by Big Nose Kate, but that is the only connection.
