Dean Martin STOLE THE SHOW in this one
Anybody else think that the bar scene with Dean Martin and the glass eye was the best part of this movie?

The eye raffle is right out of Shakespeare.
Classic comic relief scene.
I agree that Dean stole this movie from the elder Elder, and the bar scene with the other Martin (Strother) is a classic! But my favorite scene only last about 8 seconds. It's when the Duke hits George Kennedy in the face with that ax handle!
shareAxe handle scene...enjoy!!

I thought it was an enjoyable scene, in a comic relief kind of way, but it was pure padding. I wouldn't say Martin stole the movie (that was Wayne, IMHO) but Dino was great. I saw him in The Silencers a couple of weeks ago, where he sleepwalked through a one-take shambles, but he really showed what he could do in Sons.
No Guru, No Method, No Teacher.
Not really.
I watched Rio Bravo and then I watched this. He's terrific in Rio Bravo but quite muted in comparison in this.
That scene was okay but hardly what you could describe as show stealing.
This was definitely more Wayne's movie. And whilst decent, it's not in the same calibre of Rio Bravo, where Martin does steal the show...
