One gripe

I am a fan of this film and the sequel, but I always had one gripe.

There is a scene where Flint has infiltrated the villain's stronghold and he kills a guard with a forklift!
C'mon!
With all his apparent fighting skills and weaponry, why would he kill someone with a forklift? It just seemed so out-of-character for him.

Yes, I know it is "just a movie", but a good film can make you believe anything, and that scene seemed so out of context to his whole style of fighting.

Any thoughts?

My problem is he kills everyone and that business with all the people on the Island being killed never set right with me

Actually Flint didn't kill everyone else. It was the military that shelled the stuffing out of the island 'til the volcano erupted.

Re-read my post, I said he kills everyone he runs into and then our Navy shelled and killed everyone who was left on the island

This was the early 70's... a mere 26 years after the allies were dumping loads steel-enveloped RDX and firebombs on civilian cities. "Collatral damage" was not yet firmly ingrained into the minds of people back then.

It was?

Our Man Flint came out in 1966

Sorry, total brainfart on my part there. You're right, of course.

...which strengthens my point: a mere 21 years after the allies (and so on and so forth).

You know there IS such a thing as a brainfart?

Not to mention the guy grabs his throat when it happens. You're not being strangled, dude. You mid-section's been crushed.

I noticed that too!

Of all the things in this movie, THAT is what bothers you? To me that's almost as funny as the "Battle of the Bulge" ribbon.

What about getting rid of the guy in the communications room?

ALL volume controls should have a big red "DANGER" setting!

Not only does he kill the goon guard, but he steals his uniform as well (second time he does that in a few minutes, must be a world record),Check it out and you will see that this is the very same uniform that Flinr gets to wear to the end of the movie.

As for the forklift method of killing, it may - just may - be used to avoid spoiling the uniform. The guard is killed by crushing, and no blood is spilled.
