Mueller's Son contains spoilers

I'm not quite clear what happened to Mueller's son. At the beginning of the movie, the admiral mentions Mueller's son to him, and Mueller responds with, "You wouldn't", and the admiral replies, "We already did.". If they murdered him, why? Later, Mueller hears on a radio broadcast that his son sunk 5 ships and was given a commendation. The broadcast said nothing about his death and Mueller is smiling. Right after, he's drunk and tearing up his cabin. Was the radio broadcast listing off those who died in action, and Mueller learned of his son's death then? Or was his son murdered and they made him out to be a hero for propaganda reasons?

No, his son didn't die.
He sunk a hospital ship.

Thank you so much. I totally missed the moment when Mueller discovers it's a hospital ship. I still don't understand the conversation with the admiral at the beginning though. The admiral references his son, and Mueller says, "They wouldn't.". The admiral replies, "Yes, Mueller they would. They have.". They have done what?

The threatened his son to get him to go along with the mission.
By the time he realized the threat was empty, he was ashamed of his
son for what he did. That is my interpretation anyway.
