Just happened to turn on amc and mirage. Shades of Guy Pearce's role in Memento or am I way off base?

American Movie Channel, which once upon a time was on a par with Turner Classic Movies (AMC was the first outlet to broadcast the Todd-AO versions of "Oklahoma!" and "The Sound of Music" and the Cinemascope 55 version of "Carousel", e.g.), before they took a terribly wrong turn and started doing things like commercials, promos over end credits, and other nasty things. AMC used to be a leader in innovative programming, but those days are gone with the wind.
shareI agree with you on AMC, but to be fair, AMC really couldn't compete with TCM over the long run, becasuse TCM had a lock on the MGM/WB library. So from a financial point of view, it may have made sense for them to go in a different direction.
