mirage

Just happened to turn on amc and mirage. Shades of Guy Pearce's role in Memento or am I way off base?

reply

Mirage is definitely a pre-cursor to Memento.
P.S. Wat's AMC?

reply

American Movie Channel, which once upon a time was on a par with Turner Classic Movies (AMC was the first outlet to broadcast the Todd-AO versions of "Oklahoma!" and "The Sound of Music" and the Cinemascope 55 version of "Carousel", e.g.), before they took a terribly wrong turn and started doing things like commercials, promos over end credits, and other nasty things. AMC used to be a leader in innovative programming, but those days are gone with the wind.

I agree with you on AMC, but to be fair, AMC really couldn't compete with TCM over the long run, becasuse TCM had a lock on the MGM/WB library. So from a financial point of view, it may have made sense for them to go in a different direction.
