Seen it 100 times, but still some questions (spoilers)

As I say I have seen this so many times on BBC tv.

But watching bits of it again tonight I suddenly had some questions.

Is Sue LLoyd working for the bad guys and if she is is she just obeying orders?

There has been much talk about locations on here and elsewhere but my question is,what sort of train carriage is Palmer in when he gets kidnapped? and where is he going (Nottingham?)

It looks like a sleeping car to me ?I work on the railway and know that there used to be many more sleeper routes than there are now but is the sleeper compartment just used for dramatic effect?

Another question is what does Palmer have for lunch when the boss is paying?

reply

The train says "London-Paris" so Paris I guess :P

reply

Jean Courtney (Sue Lloyd)is working for Colonel Ross, so not the bad guys.

The train was going to Paris, Belgrade, etc. The signs in the warehouse appear to be in Albanian.

reply

Thanks for the replies,if the train says London-Paris then it is the Golden Arrow to Dover from Victoria don't know if that makes sense in the context of the film.
I have not noticed that detail before.

reply

In that scene where the train departs you can just about see a crest with "Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits"

He was on his way to Paris when he was kidnapped. Not clear if he had crossed the Channel although the fake ticket collector at first asked for Palmer's ticket in French. The place where he is brainwashed is actually in London but Grantby had told him he was in Albania so there were inscriptions in Albanian on the wall to maintain the pretence. He breaks out, a little prematurely, and is bewildered to see a London bus passing by when he gets out onto the street.
His girl friend is working for Ross, "the good guy" but this is a harsh world. She is quick to tell Ross about him so there is obviously no question of her being loyal to her lover first. We learn at the end that Ross is not the traitor but he might well have been. When Palmer complains at the end of the film that he might have been killed or else driven mad by the brainwashing, Ross merely says that it is what he is paid for.
