Surely The Hill is yet another film (like Point Blank) that is overdue for release on DVD. Presumably the rights to both these titles are held by Turner Classic Movies as they are shown reglularly on this channel which unfortunately I cant receive.
Perhaps its a question of taste but I cant figure out why so many third rate and worse films are released on DVD and classics like these are ignored. Surely there would be a demand?
Yes totally agree-Would buy this straight away-Don`t know who holds the rights in the U.K. but get your damn fingers out !This film fully deserves a greater audience.A
Funny thing is I've been to a lot of leadership courses that use movies to "set up" situations or to show the right/wrong way to handle what comes. (Twelve O'clock High seems to be a favorite for this - leper colony and all that) Without a doubt this movie just blows the others away - leadership, covering for your people, putting subordinates in over their heads and not bailing them out until too late, ignoring warning signs, bosses at the top who don't have a clue what's going on one level below them - duty to one's organization/country vs. what's morally right, racism, tolerance for other lifestyles (yea he wasn't gay, but got treated like he was). My favorite is how some managers when things don't work, just continue to do the same thing, only HARDER (the whole world is crashing down around him and the Sgt Major yells for them to "clean up this mess" as it's the only thing he can think of to do. THIS MOVIE WOULD BE PERFECT to show folks a whole raft of issues. Can't wait for the DVD.
turner classic movies aside ,that's how warners treat MGM movies on DVD. latest offerings are NIGHT OF THE LEPUS !!! plus their own DRACULA 1972. it seems no any customers for films like THE HILL or ZABRISKIE POINT or RYAN'S DAUGHTER or PAT GARRETT... GOD BLESS THEM !
This is Connery's ( and perhaps Lumet's ) finest moment. An incredibly intense film that screams out like a staff Sergent for a DVD release. Come on Warners Turner or MGM. So who should be responsible for putting this on DVD ?......EVERY FIFTH MAN!!!!!
Watched the start of The Hill last night on Turner Classic Movies. The sound quality was terrible; very difficult to understand much of the dialogue. I have a hunch this might preclude its release on DVD.
oh dear. this title will definitely need remastered treatment, although only Warners and Sony have the best technology for this.
the film will only be released if it proves to have an audience. thats why Ryan's Daughter got one. even though, it was never a popular film, it has a huge audience who appreciate the quality and think it is brillant. (many intelluctants)
