Amazon.com france has, according to 'DVD beaver'(with direct links), the DVD of "The Hill" listed for a March 27 2007 release, through Warner Brothers! No listing seen for region 1, or 4 down here in australia. Wondering why only sighted for a release in France? Anyone able to find better, more comforting, update?

It seems this French release from Warner's is in 4:3 ratio. Oh dear!
On another note I am wondering when this film was released in France. There is no mention of a French release in the IMDb "release dates" section.

How do you know the French DVD is 16:9? Fnac also lists it as 4:3. Warner France DVD website lists it as 4:3

The Hill was shot 1.66:1 spherical 35mm, and 4x3 would measure up as 1.33:1. Possibly someone is a little confused about aspect ratios, comparing cinema to video transfers. Very little difference but a difference none the less. Happens all the time it seems. I await the June release. Special feature sounds interesting also.

Interesting link Dmitri-Dano. I don't read french, but it is interesting that the Ratio is 1.77:1 instead of the OAR of 1.66:1. I wonder if the director has requested this, to soft matte out the one annoying flaw in the film where the 360 degree pan reveals the shadow of the camera on the Hill. The french text mentions 1.85:1 ratio also so obviuosly this is a contentious issue with this DVD release. Bring on the June release date!

It states on Amazon.com that The Hill is being released June 2007 R1 as part of a boxset:World War 2 collection volume 2(Heroes Fight For Freedom).I`m not too fussed about the other films listed so hopefully it will eventually be released individually.

shareI've just received the dvd today from France,the ratio is 177.1 and it is 16/9 enhanced and it is an excellent transfer it has removable French subtitles but no extras i bought it from www.devedenaute.fr the website is in French i dont speak French(i'm English) but i managed to feel my way through
