Why on earth did John Wayne need a stunt double?!

All he did was stand there at the end of the movie dressed in Roman garb and holding a spear - and saying one sentence! He didn't even move.

A stunt double? Did they mean, instead, a stand-in?

His god-awful reading of the biblical text was, after all, quite a stunt!

Well . . . I don't believe it was his "reading of the line" at all. Rather, the fact that everybody from here to Timbuktu knew it was JOHN WAYNE. In Wayne's own words in True Grit -- "Too much gun."

reply

I didn't recognize him.
