Epic Family Comedies

"The Great Race" is one of a class of movies that I would refer to as "Epic Family Comedies" that they just don't seem to make any more. The characteristics of these films would be:

1)A family comedy - Something the whole family could see (without the parents cringing) but is not directly aimed at the kids. It was designed to be entertaining for everybody.

2)Live action with high budget(for its time) with high production values and a cast of well-known actors.

3)Long running time (2 hours plus) and a sweeping scope (spectacular scenery).

I can think of two other films that fall into this catogory:

Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines

and

The Hallelujah Trail

Can anybody think of any others? Have any of these been made since the late 60's?

I would probably not include "Mary Poppins" or "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" on the list as these seem to be aimed primary at kids.

"It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World" would definitely qualify.

I agree. The Great Race definitely is an epic family comedy! It's a perfect example, along with It's A Mad Mad Mad World.
