Jack + Tonys Reprise Scenes From Past Films

Coincidence or Intentional? Anyone notice the escape act from the straight jacket, Tony Curtis did, was what he did in his film "The Great Houdini"? Or when Peter Falk poured the foam on Jack Lemmon, when he was under the car, and he got up looking like Ensign Pulver, when he set off the firecracker in the laundry room?

Good calls...and probably intentional.

And I've never really noticed them before.

The reason I think that they are intentional is that the two scenes had to be thought up and scripted and it does seem that those two famous movies "figure" in the two scenes.

Now, Jack Lemmon was always Blake Edwards choice for Professor Fate, but guys like Paul Newman and Charlton Heston were considered for Leslie. Was the Houdini escape added when Tony Curtis got the role?

ecarle, I understand your enthusiasm for TGR and Mad, Mad World, but to my personal taste, these films try too hard for laughs and I prefer the understated British-type humor of Those Magnificant Men in their Flying Machines (released almost simultaneously with TGR and with an interestingly similar ending to the race) and the granddaddy of epic on the road comedies, Around the World in 80 Days.
