We had a pug dog when I was young and the first time I saw this movie I was THRILLED to see the "pug scene" with Jack Lemmon. I LOVE to hear all of the snorting and sniffing during that scene because it is SO true. LOL
Any other pug owners keep this movie on hand just for that scene?
I'm still a pug owner, by the way.... or do they own me? I'm never quite sure, honestly.
OMG, the pug scene is so adorable! It is such a cute moment as their little legs trot off the bed to get the brandy from the Prince. They're gorgeous!

Just the breathless sincerity he puts into the "I hate you." line as he looks the pug in the eye is a LOL moment all on its own. So funny!
shareI agree. That little touch that Lemmon puts to it made it soooo funny. The big evil man vs those tiny dogs. I still find myself using that line almost 50 years later.
shareSince the pugs were basically all over the place and one or two responded to his aggressive "Get of the Bed!!" by trotting away I get the feeling that the little guy desperately attempting to snuggle up behind Lemmon was NOT scripted and the "I hate you!" line was a clever ad-lib.
Anybody know for sure, either way?

The one thing I know is that nothing "apologizes" like a pug. If you yell at them, most of them try to make it up by snuggling even closer. "Humans can't POSSIBLY hate me when I barnacle up to them and attach myself like a second skin!"
