Blue Screen and Blake Edwards was a Master Director. Who needs CGI when you have actual Talent in Directing movies. Just look at the Master work in the Pie Fight Edwards was also a Master in Editing his Films where Tony Curtis Walked through the Pie Fight with out getting on Speck of Pie on his White Outfit.

There is more Gravy about you then the Grave. Scrooge.

Blue-screen (aka "chroma-keying") was still in its infancy in the 1960's.
Blake Edwards just used rear-projection for his special effects.
