shareI never forgot this little gem.I love it just as much as "How The West Was Won".
shareit's probably owned by time warner which owns turner communications. every so often it'll be shown on tcm or encore westerns. it was produced by united artists, whose films were bought by mgm, and then sold to turner. it's one of the many films i'd like to see on dvd
shareTo me, Glory Guys is a pretty standard western because of the typical subplots. That said, I think it is the best depiction of the battle fought by the other part of Custer's command. There has never been a movie with an adequate portrayal of the battle fought by Reno, Benteen and all those men of the 7th Cavalry who were not under Custer's immediate command when Custer was killed at the Little Big Horn. Even Son of the Morningstar gives very little time to this part of the battle. Glory Guys changes all the names and fictionalizes a lot, but basically depicts that other portion of the fight at the Little Big Horn on 6/25/76. For that reason alone, I recommend the movie.
shareI heartily agree with the previous poster. Although the names have been changed, this is a good account of Major Reno's action at Little Big Horn, including the fight in the woods and the frantic retreat across the river. The film depicts very accurately how a cavalry troop dismounts and forms a skirmish line on foot, and emphasizes how the inadequate training of the recruits impacts the outcome of the engagement.
The film's VHS pan & scan version reduces its quality and would be better served on DVD in widescreen format. I already own the VHS copy, but would definitely buy a DVD version.
This movie has been released on dvd in the UK. Try checking amazon.co.uk. Uf you have a multi-regional dvd player and a TV which plays PAL as well as NTSC, you should have no problems. Cheers, Mike
shareglory guys is either out on dvd or coming out shortly. i got word from amazon some time ago
shareJust bought the DVD Region 1 through Amazon.com. I believe the film is complete and is shown in widescreen format. However, there is no "menu" and no scene selection option on the DVD, which I thought was unusual. The widescreen version really enhances the battle scenes and I thoroughly enjoyed the film.
shareThe Glory Guys is also available from Netflix via direct streaming, although it appears to be the pan-and-scan version.
