Why wasn't there a cut in the painting and no blood stains?

There should have been blood stains all over the painting in the library not to mention a big tear where the hedge clippers were jammed into it but when the townspeople came there were no signs that anything had been done.

don't tell me there were two paintings made? Wouldn't that have been a big giveaway?

Of course there were two paintings. Didn't you pay any attention at the end of the movie? They explain everything.
