Bookcase Question

When Luther takes the judge, lawyers & jury into the Simmons Mansion in order to show them what he witnessed when he stayed overnight alone in the house he tells them about the sliding bookcase. He demonstrates how he accidentally opened it up when he threw a book at it.Naturally it doesn't open in front of everyone. The judge then dismisses it & tells everyone that they will go up to the organ loft.Wonder why nobody suggested examining the bookcase closer, perhaps trying to pry it open or take a crowbar to it? Simmons was going to have the mansion bulldozed,so it wouldn't matter if they chopped away at the bookcase. The secret passageway alone might not convince everyone about everything Luther experienced earlier. However,it would lend some credibility to his story.

Bias. Luther was dismissed as a tale teller and prone to excitement. The judge was probably 90% against Luther and not predisposed to take anymore time on his behalf.

Some people are afraid of the unknown. I don't know why, and it scares me.
