AGREED! We think alike possibly because of our age.I was born 7/9/70.So many times I`ve wished for a secret passage in many ways mostly as I try to calm myself to sleep after a hard day.Sincerely,-Bruce

My oldest sons name is Chris.I named him after a deceased best friend of my youth Christopher Wayne. It`s strange how your simple comment has led me to realize that all of my pressures from work, divorce, ect have always caused me to imagine having many secret passages so it`s like when I`m trying to rest and sleep I always imagine hidding somewhere special that noone knows about.I guess the problems that are`nt easily resolved subconciously I seek to run away and hide from them.Take Care Chris, and GO BEARS!!!!!

The secret passage in the film really impressed me as a kid and similar passages in Roger Cormans House of usher, Pit and the Pendulum and countless other horror movies of the 1930s-1960s. Many years later my wife and I purchased a run down farm house and I toyed with the idea of constructing a secret passage. Nine years later I put in a simple removable panel leading to a dark narrow passage way that leads to a small(in keeping with the proportions of the house) two story turret room with three windows and a steep four sided hip roof . The kids liked it but were too scared to stay up there by themselves overnight. (just like Luther Heggs)

Very cool! That must`ve been a great feeling for you. That took a lot so much and many things many men lack in fufilling a dream.

Yes, I would love a secret passage, but it would have to lead to a groovy old blood-stained organ, (AND THEY USED BON AMI!) that I could control with a tuning keyboard beneath the pipes, like Kelsey did. My parents' house, where I grew up, actually had secret storage space behind a built-in bookcase with hidden casters. My friends would get all excited when I'd show them but then there was always great disappointment. I'd roll out that bookcase to reveal nothing more than a little crawl space, under the eaves, filled with Christmas decorations.

I've always loved secret passageways in movies or on TV shows.Anybody remember any of these:staircase that raises & lowers(The Munsters),moving fireplace, revolving garage floor, garage wall which rises & lowers, billboard that splits open down the middle(The Green Hornet),sliding bookcase(Batman),wall in the dressing room of a tailor shop that opens(The Man From U.N.C.L.E.),fireplace that slides opens(The Barbary Coast).I'd love to have any of these, there's a site online that features an actual company that designs secret passageways. They have some very cool stuff!

I loved this movie too, and one of the major attention grabbers for me was the secret passageway. I had a place I lived in for a couple of years that had a feeling like it was a bird's nest with a secret passageway entrance, and that really added to the ambiance of the place.

The movie "The Name of the Rose" [1986] with Sean Connery and Christian Slater had a really cool scene where they run through passageways that reveal themselve to be part of a maze. Check that out, too!

In my dad's last house, there were the main stairways to the upper floors, then there were servants' stairways near the back. They weren't exactly hidden, but they were much smaller and a little creepy. That was a really neat old house.

I always loved secret passages too. I always wondered why they were in all these both comedic and serious scary movies.

There is a clear fact here that alot of people don't know. Secret passageways were built in old, large houses, not for nefarious reasons, but for servants to get around quickly and not traipse through the main part of the house.

Especially in England, servants were to be as out of sight as possible. Such passageways allowed for quick in and out for cleaning, bringing things in and out of the house, and so on. Instead of going up and down the steps where guests may be congregating, they can move around "behind the scenes".

The small dark passageways weren't meant to be scary, but efficient and interweaved throughout the home.
