Was Simmons Rash? Spoiler

Why did Simmons remain in the mansion after the judge & jury looked like they would rule in his favor?Luther's story about his experiences in the mansion were refuted & Simmons had a clear path to a victory. The bookcase passageway alone wouldn't have convicted Simmons,he could still claim his innocence.Simmons could also deny the former gardener's accusations, where's the evidence Simmons committed the murders? He should have left the mansion when everyone else did & kept his cool.

good point but then there wouldn't have been any way to tie up the movie, I suppose Kelso would have thought of something else?

You have to assume he was a little unhinged, being a cold blooded murderer and all. He hid it well but eventually it just came to the surface. No going back.

I've read that criminal will return to the scene of the crime.

Yeah, that was pretty stupid of him, but I guess he lost his cool when he discovered Alma had found the hidden staircase.
