and they used Bon Ami!

I must have seen this film 50 times, and counting. I loved it the first time I watched it as a boy. There are so many memorable scenes, as well as half the cast of Bewitched! The self-playing organ(s), the courtroom, the elevator,
the running gags----all these contribute to an enjoyable movie. I especially liked the performance of Charles Lane as the crusty lawyer. Lane demonstrates great comic timing in his delivery. In short, I've watched the Ghost and Mr. Chicken many times before and I intend to watch it again. Who knew that this film is the reason Knotts left the Andy Griffith Show?

This movie was the reason Don Knotts left The Andy Griffith Show, a huge gamble on his part since Andy Griffith Show was such a success. The Biography channel brought this out when they did a show on Don Knotts.

A Mr. Chicken fan site has an interview posted of Don Knotts that says Andy Griffith had though about ending the TV show so Don Knotts struck while the fire was hot and signed with Universal, after doing so, Griffith changed his mind about ending the show.

To the best of my memory, I've read that when Andy Griffith started the Andy Griffith show he told Don Knotts that he would do it for 5 seasons and then quit. So near the end of season 5, Don started to look for work elsewhere. He got a contract to make movies and after seaons 5 of TAGS he quit. Then Andy decided to continue the show, which as any TAGS fan knows it was never the same after Barney was gone.

The Andy Griffith Show aired for a total of 8 seasons and was number one in the ratings when it went off the air. Go figure.

If you read the post by tdf5G, he has the reason Don left the Andy Griffith show. I have episodes of The Larry King show where Don Knotts and Andy Griffith say that Don thought the show was only going to be on for 5 seasons. Don starting making plans for other work before the 5th season was up.

That Bon Ami line cracks me up everytime! Especially when she shouts it in the courtroom.

The two little old ladies in this movie are a hoot.
"It's a murder house! I wouldn't go near there for $100 dollars!"
"I wouldn't go near there for $200!"
"$300!"
"Four!"
"Five!" (& Burt Mustin's stealing her hard boiled egg.)
"Six!"

I read that Don Knotts wrote personally to the Bon Ami company to ask permission to mention the product.
