cars?

Does anyone know what models of cars were used in the movie?

reply

A Porsche, a MG and a Triumph, which exact models I don't know

reply

Don't know about the MG and the Triumph, but I thought the Porsche was a 356

reply

The Triumph is a TR-3. Really tiny doors, really big-ass steering wheel.

reply

There are four cars shown. The fourth (not mentioned above) is an Austin Healy.

reply

The MG was an MG-A

reply

There were two MGs; Tommy was driving an MGB.

Dang, I thought one was a Datsun Fairlady, And I thought 'Fairlady' was a 'tongue-in-cheek' reference for car enthusiasts by the director

Definitive answer: The white roadster with the stripes is an MGA. The white roadster with the cutaway doors is a Triumph TR-3. The black roadster with the top up (driven by the nerd who gets killed early on) is an MGB, the successor to the MGA. And the black coupe is a Porsche 356. The only other vehicle I noticed was the Jeepster.

reply

gee thanx, I thought the other vehicle was a Toyota Land Cruiser

reply

If we are aiming for total accuracy, the other vehicle is a Willys pickup. A Jeepster is a "sporty" convertible.

Actually the cars were my only complaint in this movie, the English (and German) sports cars don't suit the over-sexualized characters very well. They are probably all they could get their hands on, but IMHO, Varla deserves at least a high-powered Corvette. The race scene was laughably wimpy, with the film speeded up to intensify the action. I suppose the only justification for the Triumph and the MGA was to get those low angle side shots of them "driving", while the crew bounced on the fenders. A '57 T-Bird would have been nice, an E-Type Jag maybe, or a GTO would have made more sense.

Does anyone recognize where this was filmed? The location listed is not very specific. I was looking for clues along the horizon, but the mountains in the background (not in the foreground) don't appear to be big enough to be the Sierras. I'm thinking Muroc or El Mirage maybe.

It is a fun movie to watch, no matter what.
