While Tarantino is thinking about remaking this film or not, FPKK, is one of the greatest films made in the 60's, Russ Meyer's best, working out how to squeeze each cent he had in his limited budget to get the best out of it. Did he manage to do so? Of course he did!
These three strippers, murdering and kidnapping, killing a man and holding his girlfriend hostage as a way of looking for a new way of living is the best cross of girl-gang movies, road movies and explotation movies. Hilariously narrated, melodramatic, it portrays the ultimate American's greatest fetishes: big breasts, fast cars, tight jeans, and sudden death.
I'm very fond of Tarantino's work, I really respect the guy and I totally love his movies but "Death proof", reminded me of this masterpiece and personally I think it was enough to honor Meyer's work. If Tarantino is eager to have a trashy product, and tries to keep the visceral power of the original movie, first, he has to get some good and maybe not so well known actresses in order to reflect the true philosophy of the film.
In my humble opinion and with all my respect, while Lohan, Spears, and Hilton DO have and lead trashy ways of living themselves, I do not think they have the ability to show, breath and express the real meaning of Meyer's movie. I'm not saying thy can do it, it would be a nice surprise if they could, but, honestly, seeing unkown actresses playing the leading roles, as Tura Satana, Haji, and Lori Williams did would be amazing.
On the other hand, Tura Satana has recently stated that she feels none of Tarantino's choices are remotely suitable for portraying Varla.
Well, let's wait and see...
