Total snoozefest,

I'm sorry I absolutely love Hammer, and there is a lot in this film that is great. The whole hammer glamour always looks good and this is no disappointment in that field.

But boy could they have used a good script editor. Most of the first half of the film is is empty fodder. The whole beginning scene, even though it is slightly fun, when you look back, what's was the point of that really? It takes for ever for our main characters to get to the castle, and then scenes are totally stretched out, where it's all a lot of empty talk, and nothing much happens. When something finally starts happening we're already halfway through the film. and even then it's sooo slow. we hardly get to see any excitement or drama before it's cut short and we get stuck into another useless detour when two of our main characters leave the castle to go to the crossroads with the hut, oh and then they go directly back to the castle again! (you can just hear the scriptwriter think "That's another five minutes nicely filled!")

The second half is slightly better in pacing, even though it's still the same old same old, with nothing new and interesting to add to the story here. The ending is very nice, and the ice is a nice and different idea, although my attention at that point was already someplace else, and I really couldn't care anything about these characters anymore....Sorry Hammer, you made some great films but this isn't one of them.

I'll admit it isn't the most fun to watch out of the entire series, but it is one of the most well written, well acted, and well produced entries of it. I enjoy the film very much so and found it to be very suspenseful and atmospheric. I loved the characters too, especially Helen.

Come, fly the teeth of the wind. Share my wings.

Not a snoozefest. Much better than the next one.

A shining rewards a small journey backwards in time brings.

I have most of the Dracula films on DVD & this is one of the best! The first part is far from a "snoozefest". It develops the characters & sets the atmosphere for the second half.

The coach breaking down, their time in the tavern, etc. All were necessary to establish the story. I would put it ahead of Dracula Has Risen From the Grave.

I really enjoyed this movie. I've clocked it and Dracula does not enter until 45-50 minutes but the story is well written and the other characters I cared about. The beautiful gothic atmosphere is perfect. I liked the ending with Dracula and the ice.
