Andrew Keir

I always loved the character Keir played in this classic Hammer film. He seems a reassuring priest (I'd love to have him around with Dracula loose), is a figure of authority and righteous. His voice always had that "man of God" sound to it. This was his best role...

Yes Andrew Keir brought a lot of gravitas and authority to this movie. The only male (apart from Dracula) with any strength and common sense. The movie would have been a bit more hollow without his reassuring presence.

I like him because we have the same name - Sandor (though his name is pronounced like they say it in Hungary; "Shandor", while mine is without the "sh"-sound).
I've only stumbled uppon a character with this name 3 times, in "The Spy Who Loved Me" - one of the bad guys, in "Eyes Wide Shut" - a man at the party in the beginnig of the movie who asks Nicole Kidman's character to have sex with him even though he knows she is married, and in this movie.
And this guy has been the only one to be a "good guy".

There is a Sandor Clegane (aka The Hound) in the HBO series "Game of Thrones."

reply

In Dracula's Daughter (1936) the countess's manservant is named Sandor.

Let's not forget the renowned architect, surgeon, and certified genius/authentic wacko, Dr. Ivo Shandor -- leader of the infamous Cult of Gozer!

I love him in this too. As has been said, reassuring, righteous and full of common sense.
