Favorite character?

Who's your favorite character in this movie?

I like the character of Father Sandor. He's pretty earthy for a man of God, warming up his ass and all. :)

reply

Father Sandor, certainly, and Charles. He's more likable than most heroes of such movies are, probably because he comes off kind of funny and happy-go-lucky/careless and isn't than a standard perfect dashing hero. It also helps that seeing Francis Matthews makes me feel warm and fuzzy because it reminds me of those "Follow Me" crash course in English shows I used to watch as a child. :)

Klove! For his purely-evil leer and attention to duty; for bringing the Prince of Darkness back to life!

My favorite character is Helen. Many horror movies have that one person who knows what they're talking about, yet everyone calls them crazy, paranoid, and they don't believe them. Whatever character that is is usually my favorite of the bunch.

You knew Helen would bite dust. The ones that whine always die or get slapped. She needed a sip of deadly nightshade to take the edge off. My vote goes for the Father.

While not my favorite character, that would probably be Father Sandor, Helen was memorable. Just re-watched for the first time in a while and while putting in the old VHS I taped off AMC many moons ago, the only scenes I could remember as definitely being in this Dracula movie were Helens. Barbara Shelley did a fine job of going from the terrified victim to the craving vampire.

"You don't need Charles..." very creepy the way she slinks out of the darkness toward Diana. Unfortunately Dracula wasn't going to be content with Helen. He saw and wanted Diana immediately.

Father Sandor was my favorite supporting character. He added a real, earthy and reassuring character to the mix. He wasn't afraid of Dracula but was smart enough to steer clear in certain circumstances and to play it carefully.

reply

yeah - I really like Helen too. she seems the wisest. and Barbara shelley certainly was a true, feminine beauty!
beyond that, yeah, the priest was damn heroic - klove was much more "well-mannered" than his portrayal in, "the scars of Dracula" (where he was essentially a wild-man/monster.

The title character the Prince of darkness who doesn't need to say one word

I liked Helen. It was fun to see how this prissy, fretful character become a lot more sensual and relaxed once Dracula made her his mistress or henchwoman. And she was truly creepy when she appeared outside of Diana's window. I just wish there had been more scenes with Helen and Dracula rather than so much screen time being given to bland Diana and Charles.

Favorite character? Count Dracula, hands down.

reply

Helen. I think she should have lived and be the Final Girl, she was the one who warned the others to use their brains, but sadly Sangster and Hammer wanted young blonde to be the heroine.

reply

Father Sandor. Love the warming of his arse by the fire and his warning not to go near Karlsbad where Dracula lurks. Oh and his poo-pooing of the superstition, before Dracula is resurrected.

reply

Klove was cool. Father Sandor had some charisma. And Helen made a fine/creepy vampire. Hard to choose...

reply

Helen. She should have left Dracula because of domestic violence and find some other castle, Hammersylvania was full of them.

reply

Helen

reply

Father Sandor is amazing, with Helen a close second.
