Worst ending ever for vampire movie

So Count Sinestre walks outside into a cemetery full of crosses, knowing the sun is rising. Essentially, he "forgot" that it was sunrise and that he was walking into a bunch of crucifixes?? I guess he wasn't too bright, and the screenwriter was even worse.

I agree it was poor at best

I can't think of another ending, of an otherwise decent movie, that felt so rushed. Like the rental on the equipment and costumes was about to end so they just had to finish it.
It seemed like the vampires in this movie didn't have much trouble with daylight... so it was really just the shadow of the cross that did him in (while his immortal wife was killed by some falling rocks?).
Generally I find the whole 'crucifix' thing in vampire movies to be a bit lame anyway... Peter Cushing does in Christopher Lee with nothing more than a pair of candle holders held at right-angle... surely there must be more to it than that?

Anyway, I still enjoyed the movie quite a bit... just the ending was a letdown.

Bad ending for a boring movie. I just saw it for the first time and couldn't believe how inept and amateur a piece of filmaking this was. It was supposed to rival Hammer films of the time but Hammer would never turn out a piece of crap like this.

You haven't seen many Hammer flicks, have you? Check out the decidedly dull "The Mummy" (1959) or the horrible "Prehistoric Women" (1967) or the godawful "When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth" (1970). I'm not saying "Devils of Darkness" is great, but all three of these Hammer flicks are less entertaining.
