How much better is the Japanese version?

I legitimately enjoyed Gojira as a film, and not just as a cheesy sci fi invasion flick. I mean, sure, it has some cheesy aspects, but they're easily overlooked if you just take it's age and the quality of everything else into account. I'd like to watch some other monster invasion flicks, and Gamera is the obvious choice.

This leads to my question...Gamera is part of that 50 sci fi classic movie collection, but as far as I can tell, it only comes in an english dubbed version. Is the Japanese version better enough to warrant purchasing a separate dvd collection to get the Japanese versions? Or is the Japanese version just as cheesy? (with, perhaps, the english dub that doesn't sync up with the lips amping up the cheesy aspects, making it even better)

tl;dr: should I just get the english dub version that comes in the 50 movie pack, or is the Japanese version good enough to warrant buying a separate DVD set?

buy the separate dvd, if anything for a cleaner print. Some of those 50 packs use very UGLY prints, making some scenes hard to watch because of how dark they are.
I personally enjoy both the dubbed and undubbed versions of this flick....but is absolutely at its best when viewing it with the crew from the satellite of love and the boys from MST3K.

I ended up getting the 50 movie pack for $6 or $7 used at a local used game/movie store, and I thought the print included was in fine shape. It wasn't perfect, but i've seen a lot worse. However, I can't seem to find any dvds with the Japanese dub, only English.

I think i'll stick to Godzilla and later Gamera for more serious monster movies, and English-dubbed early Gamera (Attack of the Monsters and Destroy All Planets are in the set too) for cheesy monster fun. Thanks for taking the time to respond

There's a collection of all 11 Gamera movies, the 8 originals and the 3 from the 1990s reboot, available from Mill Creek with original Japanese audio and English subtitles. Subtitling missed on the hardcoded Japanese subtitles, so they're a little lacking, but it does provide the Japanese dub.

I dont know if you are still looking for an answer but I believe that the japanese version of Gamera (1965) its better than the dubbed version, but pales in comparison to movies like Gojira (1954) or the 2014 Godzilla remake.

I have that same DVD, but for some reason this movie doesnt work.
