What an uncanny resemblance to the young Terrence Stamp.
What do you think?

I don't really want a remake, but if some talented director and screenwriter(s) could pull this off, that would make my day (if). If I were to pick an actor for the role, I would choose Cillian Murphy, but that video convinced me that JRM is great for the role too...Cillian/Jonathan's looks/appearance is what I have in mind for the role.
shareI can definitly see Cillian Murphy in the role. I think Emma Watson would be a good choice for Miranda.

Intellect and Romance Triumph Over Brute Force and Cynicism
It seems that the main criteria the OP has for this film's remake is that the Freddie character have blue eyes like Terence Stamp. Kinda short-sighted, don't you think? I'll agree that the expression in Stamp's eyes is part of what's chilling in this film but the acting has to be there. I don't have any objection to the names suggested but do you think the remake could still work if the Freddie character had brown eyes?
I would choose an actor that has expressive eyes, doesn't look immediately freaky or evil on the surface, capable of being strong (to manhandle/kidnap the victim) but gentle enough to be soft-spoken and polite, must not look/act in a way that draws attention to himself (i.e. must not be super sexy like how most Hollywood "heros" or leading men would appear). The Freddie character is a lowly person that most people wouldn't take note of and that is part of what fuels his obsession--to become more than what he is and to have power over someone. The actor needs to look meek but show an active mind that's dangerous.
