I don't know if you ever found out, but nearly 12 months later I can tell you it was "Sweet Emma" Barrett, a stalwart of Preservation Hall and a muso for over 50 years in NO.

It is strange that in the imdb credits it lists Moms Mabley as the Blues singer (uncredited) but it is Barrett we see in the movie (unmentioned).

I DON'T FIND THAT STRANGE AT ALL!! THERE ARE THOSE OUT THERE WHO THINK ALL
AFRICAN-AMERICANS LOOK ALIKE.

I WORKED AT UNIVERSAL STUDIOS TOUR SECTION BACK IN 1976, AND THEY HAD A BIG PICTURE UP OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN ACTRESS, JUDY PACE ("COTTON COMES TO HARLEM"), WITH TERESA GRAVES ("GET CHRISTY LOVE"), NAME UNDER IT.

OH BOY, YOU SHOULD HAVE SEEN ME HAVING A FIT RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF GOD AND
ALL THOSE TOUR VISITORS. I REPORTED THE FAUX PAS....THEY DIDN'T CORRECT IT,
THEY JUST TOOK THE WHOLE THING DOWN! NO PICTURE AT ALL!!

"OOO...I'M GON' TELL MAMA!"
