How much was a dollar worth in back then?

I mean how many 2005 dollar was one 1965 worth?

reply

According to the inflation calculator $1.00 in 1965 is equivalent to $5.96 in 2005, or to look it at the other way...what costs $1.00 in 2005 would have cost $0.17 back in 1965.

Yes -- but keep in mind the film is set in the '30s; so you're look at wildly powerful depression-era dollars.

According to director Norman Jewison, the film was set in the mid 1930's when $5000.00 would have purchased a home in Beverly Hills.

The movie was set in the 30's....but they screwed up royally with Ann Margaret
and Tuesday Weld's 1960's clothing, high heels and hairdos.

Not to mention Steve McQueen's attire.....all of it was 1960's!!!

I remember paying 33c a gallon for gas in 1965. $7.00 filled the tank on my Buick. I made 110.00 dollars a week in 65 and that was good money for an average job. My rent was 115.00 a month.
