Why not have a hand - all black, all red?

A common "mistake" beginners to poker make - as shown at the start of Ocean's 11 - is to assume that there is a hand called all red. My question is, why shouldn't there be? Sure, obviously it's easier to get than a flush, but why not figure the odds, put it in its place with one pair, two pair, etc., and allow for it? And if your answer is "because it's just not a hand," don't bother answering. I'm asking - why not make it a hand? It would be just another variable to throw into the poker mix that would be fun.

I asked the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

first off its not common. its the kind of mistake someone makes exactly once. same as claiming 3 pairs. then they get schooled, lose their money in the hand which was probably a lot because they thought they had a hand, and learn.

occasionally someone may mistake a heart for a diamond or something and think they have a flush when they do not. but as for actually thinking all black or all red is a hand, nope.

secondly its not a hand because nobody wants it to be a hand. nobody except the same people who want 15 wild cards in the deck and a red 8 gets you an extra card.

but hey. if you want to make it a hand at your home game, feel free to.

I play a neighborhood poker game where it is dealer's choice and we played a game called Black and Tan (it's really more of a Blackjack type game than poker).

It's a High-Low Split game where all reds is the lowest hand you can make. Any red card is zero points. Aces are either one or eleven points, face cards I think were half a point or ten points and number cards are valued at their number. The object is to either make like 2.5 points for low (unless you had all reds, which is lowest) or 21.5 points for high. Whoever gets the closest to those two points wins for high and low. You start out with one card in the hole and one up with a round of betting. Then the game goes on like blackjack where players either take cards or stand with rounds of betting inbetween (in this game, however, you can take a card if you have previously not taken a card in an earlier round of betting). The point values changed from hand to hand, we didn't play for 2.5 and 21.5 each time.
