I sent back one blu-ray disc and the replacement also doesn't play the audio during the movie. I upgraded the (Samsung) player's firmware, but still no audio during movie playback. Anyone else having this problem?

TV speakers ? Full 5.1 gear with amp, satellites ?
The Cincinnati Kid's soundtrack is in mono.
Usually when mono movies are released on Blu-Ray the audio is encoded in 2.0 : the soundtrack is still the original mono, but the sound is played through two speakers (each speaker outputs exactly the same sound).
This is because almost all TVs nowadays feature left and right speakers.
The Cincinnati Kid bluray is a bit unusual because the studio chose to encode the sound in 1.0.
Only one channel gets used.
If you have a full 5.1 setup, you should hear the sound from the center channel.
If you use your TV speakers, you should probably hear it from the left speaker.
My guess is your bluray is fine, but you might need to setup your gear differently. Try to go to the audio options on either your player / amp / TV and see which speakers get used for 1.0 sound. Maybe none is selected.
One other possibility is that your BluRay player is not compatible with Dolby True HD audio, but I guess you'd already know that. Try to see if there's an alternate audio option on the disc, like Dolby Digital.
I only use this TV for watching Blu-Ray discs. It's connected using the HDMI cable. I solved my problem by buying a Sony Blu-Ray player and everything works fine now. A friend told me that Sony invented the Blu-Ray and set the standard so I figured their player would be up to the task and it is. Thanks for the reply. I'll troubleshoot the Samsung and see if changing a setting will do the trick. Thanks again.
