About the final tank battle...
I thought it was awesome and well choreographed but its unlikely that the US and German tanks faced each other in a mechanized version of Wrestlemania in real life apart from the Nazi-Soviet tank battle in Kursk.
shareThe movie made it look like all German tanks in the Battle were the massive King Tiger, while all American tanks were the medium M4 Sherman. (And I know about M47s subbing for Tigers and M24 Chaffees subbing for Shermans) The Sherman was inferior to the King Tiger (and the Panther) in firepower and armor protection, but only a handful of King Tigers took part in the Battle; the Sherman was roughly equivalent in firepower and armor protection to the most numerous German tank, the PZKW-IV.
