Totally meaningless scene with the courtesan

I thought the early scene of Colonel Hessler brushing off the hot blonde courtesan was a total waste of time. Sure I understand the director was going for character development. He wanted to show us that Col. Hessler was a consummate military tactician and professional, not one to be diverted by pleasures of the flesh. But the ensuing movie demonstrated that and didn't need the unnecessary high class hooker to show us. Hessler proves to be one tough, mean, and ruthless sob. But he still has some scruples and integrity. He is not corrupt in any way and more, he is appalled by the massacre of American POWs, not just for its morals but he understands battlefield psychology and how the Americans could quickly regain their fighting spirit because of it.

It wasn't a total waste. 3 hours without any boobies? Cinema doesn't like that! Guffy's partner was the only other female (I think) and she didn't show any cleavage at all.

Anyone know the name of the actress who played the courtesan? She looks familiar and wasn't listed in the cast.

Nothing wrong with tits and tanks!Barbara Werle?

Yes, one thing I remember from reading " The Art of War " was that if you had an enemy trapped you need to leave them a way to run from the battle. If you don't, they will fight like crazy and create unnecessary losses on your side.

If you know your enemy will not let you live if you surrender, you will fight as fiercely as you can to take as many of them as you can with you.
