There is a good movie about the Battle of the Bulge

For those who'd like to see a really good film about the Battle of the Bulge, see "Battleground", released in 1949 and starring Van Johnson. It's the story of a single platoon of the American 101st Airborne, and it was nominated for five Oscars and won two.

Many of the actors in the film had served in the war.

I regard "Battleground" as one of the best war movies ever made. The sense of realism, the way the actors all engage each other, the sense of loss when one of them is killed attests to the quality of this film. Definite 10/10!

Battleground is fantastic - one of the best films of the 1940s. I bet I've seen it 12-15 times.

Do yourself a favor and see it asap if you haven't.

You could also watch episodes 6 and 7 of Band of Brothers...

Overall, it's a better movie. But as you mentioned, it focuses on a single platoon and doesn't have the 'epic' feel of BoB. I think this movie is fun, but obviously wildly inaccurate.

Robert Pirosh, who wrote the movie, actually served as an infantryman in the Battle of the Bulge, and Anthony McAuliffe, the general who famous said "Nuts" to the German demand to surrender, was a technical advisor on the film, so I think it's safe to say that it's not quite as "wildly inaccurate" as you think it is.

I think he was saying this film (Battle of the Bulge) was "wildly inaccurate" not the film Battleground.

And yes BOTB was so inaccurate it was offensive. Battleground was quite realistic but that idiot with dentures ruined the film for me. Oh well at least it had snow in it.
