Any other political films about African colonies / post-colonial Africa?

It's a satire about post-colonial Senegal.

I saw it in a film history class, and I wasn't too terribly impressed.

The best film I can recommend is 'Breaker' Morant, which is about the Boer War of the early 20th century in South Africa (British against the Dutch). Movie is made in Australia, so there's a heavy bias for the Bushveldt Carbineers, but it's a really good war/court drama movie. It also has a good soundtrack.

the film three feathers is quite good more a war film though.

I remember an old bogart film set in frech controled damascus in the 1920s if you check his bio it should be there. it wasn't that good, but feautred gun running to resistance fighters and the such like.


I also rmemeber a film about a british colonial police man working in kenya or some where like it can't rememebr the films name or the main actor.

As far as Colonialism and Imperialism across the globe there are quite a few films that address the issue. Two recent films addressing impact in Asia: The Quiet American and The White Countess -- both of which I think are masterfully presented.

its not exactly along the same of Battle for Algiers but Laurence of Arabia has some excellent historical and political elements to it that deal with the colonial period and its aftermath in Africa/Near East.
