Because of Hogan's interplay with allied subs, I assumed their camp was located in northwest Germany near the North Sea. But there was a real Stalag 13 near a town called Hammelburg but in central Germany many kilometers from the sea.

Another of the episodes says Stalag 4 is in France; another of the episodes says they are not far from Stalag 4.
They have mentioned being fairly close to Dusseldorf. The real Stalag 13 was not a Luft Stalag. Klink's camp was obviously a smaller facility for Allied airmen. I could never understand why the producers used the name Hamelburg. I get the 13. It sounds funny. But they could have made up another town name.

Another episode says they are a 4 hour train ride from Dusseldorf.
The original Stalag XIII's were all located in Bavaria.

Stalags were only used for NCO's and enlisted men and Oflag's were used for commisoned Officers.

Like Springfield in the Simpsons, and many other fictional locations, Stalag 13 could be anywhere that the plot of a particular episode needed it to be.
