Mr. Douglas's tractor

Does anyone know what make of tractor that Mr. Douglas drives in every opening prelude to an episode? I imagine that a classic tractor enthusiast might know or even guess as to the tractor's heritage and lineage, so I was just wondering. I am the grandson, nephew, and great-grandson of a family of farmers and ranchers from western Kansas. My curiosity sometimes gets the better of me...

Here is the answer to my own question, via Wikipedia...The "Hoyt-Clagwell" tractor on the TV sitcom "Green Acres" was a Fordson Model F. It was known to randomly 'explode' followed by one or both of the rear wheels falling off...

Next time, I will check my resources before posting a question on here...

That's okay - I appreciated hearing the answer. :)

Ertl sold a "Green Acres" tractor, they were already making a Fordson when the series came out, so they just redesigned the box with a Green Acres and gave the toy new life. The box was only thing they changed, the Ertl tractor had Fordson written on the box and on the grill of the tractor.

Looks like they saved the stampings and made a new batch in the 90's, there are a bunch of them on ebay.

Actually, if you notice the tractor in the opening that he drives is totally different than the Hoyt-Clagwell.. A goof that has never been mentioned.

I never paid much attention to the opening, but yes, you're right, the tractor used during the opening is a John Deere GP http://www.agweb.com/assets/1/6/MainFCKEditorDimension/1929%20John%20D eere%20GP.jpg

Story is that Ford was a big sponsor of the show, and didn't want another brand used, and at the same time didn't want their tractor shown as unreliable (even though it would have been about 50 years old at the time), so they went with a 1924 Fordson model F baptized a "Hoyt-Clagwell" made in Fargo ND.

The obvious choice would have been an "Oliver" tractor IMHO. Advertiser angle makes sense, if you notice that all the other vehicles used in the show are Ford products.

In case you are wondering, the truck driven by Jethro on The Beverly Hillbillies was an Oldsmobile. I forget the model and year, though. I got that info from a book on The Beverly Hillbillies.

Is that a legit screen grab on the credits? I've checked a few episodes and they change it around a lot. The episode where they buy a new tractor that gets delivered to the Ziffels says Tractors and Farm Implements courtesy of Ford Motor Company.

Which episode was it from, it belongs in the "crazy credits" section for G-A.

This is about the second or third time I have seen this episode of the Tractor, and it still makes me angry that Mr. Ziffle did not catch what Lisa and Mr. Douglas was trying to tell him that the tractor was for Mr. Douglas, not him! I think he knew deep down inside but did not want to give it up. Tractors are expensive! even by the standards that Lisa bought the tractor in the first place! I guess he felt gratitude was enough, but geez!!!! enough is enough!!! Would a real neighbor buy a tractor for a neighbor????????? I think not!!!! duh!!! I guess they worked this episode in for the laughs obviously but for me it just made me angry.
